THRIVE MINISTRIES
On Tuesday evening, January 1st, Stacey and Seth
became the parents of Isaac Own Ross, 8 lbs., 10 ozs, and 21 inches
long, and we became grandparents for the third time, with our fourth due
January 16th, when Zuaquis and Zachary will have their first
child.
Grandchildren, as many of you already know, are a delight and
somehow an affirmation of goodness and joy, in what can sometimes be a
dark world. Isaac immediately recognized me and settled right into my
arms that night, though he was about
3 hours old.
But as Cheryl and I sat with Seth & Stacey, my mind wandered
back to when Seth was born. It was different then, but the wonder is the
same. Seth & Stacey chose not to know the gender of their baby until
he came, and back then in 1971, we didn’t know either. I listened as
Seth shared the wonder and joy pf his new child, and added was the joy
of a son, though I know a daughter would also have elicited joy.
They brought Isaac home today. I wonder if they were as
frightened as I was when we walked into our home in Grand Rapids,
Michigan and laid him down in the crib and it came over me with a rush
that he was now our responsibility.
Thank God that Cheryl was much better prepared than I was to be a
parent. I seemed to know next to nothing, but she brought me through and
we’re pretty happy with Seth, Kirk and Zachary. I know Kirk is a good
Dad, and I’m pretty confident Seth will be and so will Zachary.
My continued prayer for them will be to raise their children and
family in the faith. That is my fondest wish for them as we rejoice
right now in the birth of Isaac, our grandson.
